Shot for Week 23 of my "52 of Twenty Eleven" flickr group given the theme of "Long Exposure"
I shot this image for my 52 week project given the theme "Long Exposure", but I ran out of time to get it posted on flickr by midnight, which was the deadline for our weekly competition. I posted a non-HDR version of a similar scene with the "People Mover" streaking across the image instead.Looking at the two images together, I am not sure which I like better. They are very different images, but they both show the city well, which is really what I was going for. This is another one you should see on black. Click the image and see what you think...

Shot for Week 27 of my "52 of Twenty Eleven" flickr group given the theme of "Things That Look Like Letters of the Alphabet".This is a piece of art at Meadowbrook, an entertainment venue located on the campus of Oakland University. I chose this as my subject because you can make many letters out of these shapes. I can make nine letters from the shapes in this image. How many can you find? Which letters?Check it out on black by pressing "L" on your keyboard. It's easier to spot the letters that way :-)

Shot for Week 28 of my "52 of Twenty Eleven" flickr group given the theme of "Black and White".I went to shoot at this park by our house yesterday because the sky looked like it was going to be perfect for sunset. Big puffy white clouds building along the horizon. When I got there, the sky had become very gray, and the colors for a beautiful sunset just never developed. Sooooooo, it was a perfect chance to put together a black and white shot for this week's theme. This dock seemed to be reaching out into the lake, offering someone a perfectly peaceful place to ponder a day's challenges or an evening's opportunities. I hope you like it. You could probably have guessed that I'd be suggesting that you check this out on black. So go ahead, press the "L" key on your keyboard. I think you'll be glad you did...

Shot for Week 42 of my "52 of Twenty Eleven" flickr group given the theme "Words".Patty, one of my camera club friends knew I was looking for "words" today, and she was kind enough to show me this spot. The words "Tough Times Don't Last, Tough People Do" are poignant on the wall of this abandoned firestation in Highland Park (a city in the metropolitan Detroit area). Detroit continues to struggle through very tough times and places like this, where tough and brave men once worked and lived to protect the people of the city, are now abandoned and utterly destroyed.I hope the person that wrote these words is right, because it would mean there is hope for better times for our city. Press "L" to check it out on black. It's worth it...

Submitted for Week #52 of my "52 in 2013" flickr group given the theme of "My Own Favorite Shot".This is an Australian Spotted Jellyfish. I captured the image at the California Academy of Science during our family vacation in SanFrancisco this year. There were many in the tank, and they were no bigger than 4 inches in length. I pressed my lens to the glass and tracked this guy until there were no other jellies in the scene. I think they are beautiful creatures, and it turned out to be one of my favorite images of the year.Press "L" and check it out on a black background to see the color really pop...
